Definition

StreetWorkers is a community outreach service committed to provide non-traditional intervention services to youth in our community as well as prevention services to youth identified as “high-risk” for delinquency or truancy.

 

Objective

Using the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets, we will assist youth and their guardian/family in identifying strengths, needs, current resources available and resources needed in order to build assets for the youth and family.

Goals

  • Engage youth in pro-social behavior in school and all settings
  • Build assets of youth and families by getting them connected to resources in the community
  • Build and improve achievement motivation and increase positive view of personal future
  • Build focus on educational achievement by providing in-school and after-school mentoring services, access to tutoring and homework help
  • Help youth in the transition from alternative school back to home school by improving or establishing a sense of purpose, increasing positive view of personal future related to academic achievement

Duties will include but not limited to

  • Contact with families, schools, local service providers, court/law enforcement officials and community resource representatives that may be significant in providing support.
  • Goal setting – (typically work six months with the referred youth and his/her family, along with the referral source and any other collateral agencies to develop a written plan to increase the assets for that youth)
  • Referrals to Community Agencies
  • Group activities - structured and individualized recreational activities all focused on building assets as noted in the youth’s plan (created while meeting with youth in the evenings and weekends and conducting support check-ins in students’ homes and neighborhoods)
  • Creating a contextual framework for youth in processing issues that are interfering with the youth’s ability to be successful in school, home, or community settings
  • Adhere to a flexible schedule to meet the needs of clientele referred
