Text Box: Ghana is known as the Gold Coast not for its bright yellow money, but rather for its natural resource of cocoa, black gold. While you’re sitting near the fire this holiday, drinking hot cocoa and, remember that your cup is probably filled with cocoa from Ghana. Ghana is the 2nd largest producer of cocoa beans in the world.
Being Native to tropical areas such as Brazil and New Guinea in South America, cocoa was first brought over from Equatorial Guinea in 1879. Ghana and the Ivory Coast, which is the number one exporter of the cocoa bean, reside in the tropical part of Africa which provides a natural ecosystem for the growth of the cocoa plant.
